About Us

Athens Area Home Builders Association (AAHBA) is a trade organization representing the home building industry in the Athens Area.  AAHBA works to promote the home building industry in the local community and provides networking opportunities to its members.  The organization encompasses members from the counties of Clarke, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe. Our members include homebuilders, remodelers, subcontractors, suppliers, attorneys, realtors, the financial community and a host of other groups and individuals. The AAHBA is one of more than 800 local homebuilder associations throughout the U.S. and is affiliated with the Home Builders Association of Georgia and the National Association of Home Builders.

  • How can I get a list of members?
    Visit the directory on this website to access the AAHBA membership along with a link to their website if applicable.
  • I am interested in finding a builder to build my home. Can you recommend someone?
    The AAHBA recommends our entire list of builder members and encourages you to use them to build your home.  See our directory on this website and search “Builders”
  • How do I join the Athens Area Home Builders Association?
    Joining our Association is easy. Simply print an application and mail it with your membership dues to PO Box 1903, Athens, GA 30603.  For your convenience, we also accept credit cards.  Your application will be presented to our Board of Directors for approval. Once approved, you will receive a letter congratulating you and inviting you to our next monthly meeting.
  • When are the monthly meetings and may I attend?
    Monthly meetings are held every third Tuesday of the month. They are held in downtown Athens at the Holiday Inn Express. Networking begins at 11:30am and the meeting begins at 12:00pm. Meals are served buffet style including salad and bread. You are welcome to attend once as a guest. Just sign in at the registration table. There is no need to R.S.V.P. for the meetings
  • I have a problem with a builder. Can I make a complaint?
    The AAHBA is not set up to serve consumers. As an industry advocate for the home building industry, the AAHBA has no way of providing recourse for a consumer that feels wronged. If you have complaints, please direct them to the Better Business Bureau or the Department of Community Affairs.

  • What is the Builders Insurance program?
    The Builders Insurance program is a benefit to members of a local builders association. Agents that offer Builders Insurance can often offer discounts on insurance to members of our association. If you are interested in the program we can provide a list of agents that offer Builders Insurance.  Home Builders Association of Georgia.
  • How do I become a member of the Home Builders Association of Georgia or National Association of Home Builders?
    As a member of the Athens Area Home Builders Association, we are required to send dues to the State and National Associations. So, by becoming a member of our Association, you automatically become a member of HBAG and NAHB.
  • How do I get to the AAHBA office?
    We are located at 1651 Meriweather Drive in Jennings Mill Country Club. Coming from Jennings Mill Road, turn into the country club on Meriweather Drive. We are the last office building on your right before you reach to the residential section.
  • I’m concerned about things going on within the local government. How can AAHBA help?
    AAHBA has its own Government Affairs Committees. For Clarke County, Brad Stephens is Chairman and for Oconee County Jason Dickens is Chairman. They attend local meetings and stay informed with what is going on in the local government. If you have an issue that you are concerned about, let us know. We are available to research issues and speak on behalf of the organization.

The Athens Area Home Builders Association, chartered in 1957, is a not for profit trade association representing and uniting the building industry in Clarke, Oconee, Madison and Oglethorpe counties.  As the voice of the industry, we strive to create and promote a favorable climate for quality, affordable construction and to assure a positive economic future for the communities we serve.

Philosophy

The AAHBA and its members work to encourage sensible growth in our community.  Our goal is to continue to provide people in the Athens area with affordable housing and to take a positive approach in accommodating population as well as industrial expansion. As an industry advocate, the AAHBA takes an aggressive stance eliminating obstacles to adequate housing and growth. The health of the home building industry is vitally important to the growth of any community, and the AAHBA is working in a positive manner for the future of the Athens area.
