While a builders association may not traditionally be thought of as a support group, the AAHBA has been involved in many worthwhile projects. Throughout the years some of the service projects that AAHBA has helped support are: a scholarship fund at Athens Tech, Special Olympics, Project Reach, the Veterans Memorial Plaza, the Boys & Girls Club, the Bridgeway Home for Boys, the Salvation Army, the YMCA, the Eagle Boys Ranch, Extra Special People, Project Safe, the Athens Area Homeless Shelter, the Athens Clinic for the Homeless, the Fire Safety House, the Athens Clarke County CASA, the Athens Area Child Abuse Prevention Council, Inc. In 1990, AAHBA donated material and built a home that was given to the Athens Area Habitat for Humanity. During 1995, AAHBA helped renovate and remodel the Sexual Assault Center of Northeast Georgia located in Athens.
In addition to the Association’s involvement with the communities listed above, the AAHBA Builder Member Karen Griffin led the Buddy Christian Family Home Build”. Along with many donations from AAHBA members and others in the community, this project was completed in 2012. Currently AAHBA members are in the beginning stages of assisting Project Safe with additions and renovations to their facility.
